Dental Implants
Dental implants are one of the most popular dental procedures being performed today. Dental implants are usually made of titanium (a metal well suited to the body) and placed into the jawbone. The top of the implant is supplied with a small attachment that protrudes through the gum, to which a crown, bridge or dentures can be attached by screws or clips.

Dental implant problems are few and far between as the procedure is relatively simple and can be performed under local anesthetic. Patients infrequently experience pain during the procedure, although some discomfort may be felt for about one week after surgery.

Implants need time to bond to the bone. This initial bonding period can take anywhere between three to six months. There two types of implants used most frequently are:

Endosteal (in the bone): A very common type of implant. These include cylinders, screws and blades which are surgically placed into the jawbone.

Subperiosteal (on the bone): These dental implants are placed on top of the jaw and have posts protruding through the gum which holds the prosthesis in place.
