Dental Braces
Dental braces, often referred to as orthodontic braces, are used to correct dental irregularities. In most cases, the patient has crooked teeth that need to be aligned. This procedure takes pressure off the jaw, and improves the general look of the face. Braces can be fitted at any age, but normally they are used on children, as a children's bones are still growing, and this is a good stage to correct the likes of an overbite. Its advisable that braces are fitted as soon as alignment problems are discovered in children.

A mould of the patient's mouth needs to be done prior to fitting braces, as well as an X-ray needs to be taken. In rare occasions, teeth need to be extracted prior to fitting braces. This may be due to an over crowding of the mouth. Dental braces are made according to the plaster moulds, with a bracket being fitted to each tooth. These brackets are aligned by way of a wire, which is tightened at every visit, to slowly bring the teeth closer together. There are various types of braces that can be worn, based on the age of the patient. Certain brace are also available, where they are placed behind the teeth.
